After speaking with Neil Young on the telephone i was advised to post a comment on this website as a means of communicating, so here goes. I have recently returned to Morningside after living & working in Paris & London for 14 years. I have an interest in history and in I.T. which is the business area i have worked in for many years. I have recently launched a new business, Astral Voices, which utilises the internet & new technologies to publish spoken words & images as podcasts. You may of heard of podcasts on the BBC who promote their own podcast shows extensively, if not then you can learn more on my website at http://astralvoices.com but essentially you could record your history talks and then publish them as podcasts which would allow listeners all around the world to be able to listen to them (for free) via their computer or an ipod or similar mp3 device. Although podcasting is a very low cost method of distributing a chosen subject to a wide audience there are costs involved and i appreciate that as a not for profit organisation, running costs are an important factor for you but i am sure that all costs involved could be meet through a grant from the 'Awards for All' lottery fund and i would be very happy to firstly meet with you to discuss more about podcasting and how it can help Morningside Heritage and work with you on any application for funding. I should also mention that i also build websites so if you ever require a new site or indeed if you require any impartial IT advise then please feel free to contact me at alan.bold@astralvoices.com or by telephone 477 3936 or 07722079868.

Looking for anyone who remembers anything about EDINBURGH NU-PIN CLEANERS, 66 GILMORE PLACE, and its Director - Alexander Campbell - who resided at 30 MIDMAR GARDENS -- particularly during the mid 1950's.

I bought a copy of Morningside Memories (yellow cover) and excitedly noticed a photo of my mum (Marjorie Wright) in the Gillespie's class photo (about 1924). Do you know where I could find any other school photos of that class? Also, do you know where I could buy a few more copies of the booklet as I would like to give one to each of my family. Thank you for the very fond memories of Morningside.

Hello,

I am looking for information on the Morningside Riots. I haven't had much success so far and hoping that someone reads this and can point me in the right direction. I was hoping to contact the Morningside Heritage Society directly but unfortunately there is no contact number or address!

Many thanks, Janice

I well remember the cycle shop Pat. It's where my dad took me to buy my first bike. I was so excited!

Just a wee note to wish the best of luck for the launch of the first Morningside Festival. Edinburgh needs more of this type of locally produced community events and projects. Hopefully the festival will become a regular and important element on the annual Edinburgh Festivals scene.

Just let us know if there is anything we can do to assist.

I am very interested inthe site, since my family have a long association with Morningside, my grandfather starting the Cycle Shop at Churchhill and lived at 6 Belhaven terrace, down near the clock in morningside. Also our family lived in Maxwell street, and Morningside Park attending Morningside school and I am still in the area. Also i am interested in the theatre.

I hope to get to the first meeting and join the the membership.

Hope the site has every success. Pat

Thought it would be helpful to have a 'Contact Us' with information - there is no information about where you meet, the time etc or contact telephone name, address and telephone number. Also, what about a section about what you actually do, what groups get involved etc would be helpful.

Thanks: Lorna

The site looks excellent! Just one small comment - would Scotland be preferable to UK?

Best wishes and lots of luck in developing the site further!
